Overview

Plant biology is the study of plants and the interactions between their cells, tissues, and organs, to understand how they function and how they interact with their environment. Plant genomes and evolution is a subdiscipline of plant biology that focuses on the genetic composition and evolutionary history of plants. It is an important field that provides insight into the adaptations plants have developed to survive in a variety of different environments, as well as an understanding of the relationship between different species of plants. This knowledge can be used to identify and conserve threatened species, develop improved crop varieties, and better understand the role of biofuels in the environment.
