Overview

Alcohol abuse is a serious public health concern characterized by the excessive and often dangerous consumption of alcoholic beverages. Alcohol abuse can lead to health problems, including liver and kidney damage, cardiovascular disease and cancer as well as harm to both physical and mental health. It can also have negative effects on personal relationships, academic and professional performance, and the risk of accidents and injuries. To reduce the burden of alcohol abuse, effective policies and interventions, including targeted prevention, early diagnosis and intervention, and treatment for those affected, are needed.
