Biography
Dr. Sushil Middha is a TARE Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Bengaluru, Karnataka, where his research focuses on two principal areas of applied biosciences: pharmaceutical molecules from plants for Diabetes Mellitus and systems biology applications in drug discovery. He has constructed PHYTOMELLITUS, a bioinformatics database of approximately 750 plant species based on antioxidant estimation in culinary and medicinal herbs as markers of anti-diabetic properties, and identified pomegranate peel extracts as a superior source of antioxidants with significant anti-diabetic activity validated through in vivo and in vitro studies. His laboratory is engaged in isolating pelargonidin 3-glucoside from pomegranate peel extracts as a drug candidate for diabetes mellitus, while his systems biology research involves networking colon cancer genes as drug targets and mapping natural compounds to these networks for therapeutic development. Dr. Middha earned his PhD from Kumaun University and has authored over 16 indexed publications, including his most-cited work on vaccination challenges in fish health management.
