Overview
Brain injury is an event or condition that causes damage to the brain, resulting in a disruption of its normal functioning. It can occur due to a variety of causes, such as traumatic head injury, stroke, tumour, or illness. Brain injury can lead to permanent or temporary disability and changes in a person’s physical, cognitive, and social abilities. Depending on the type of injury, the effects may range from minor to severe. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for improving the chances of recovery. Brain injury is a common cause of disability and death in many countries, and is an area of research with increasing relevance.
