Overview
Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lungs. It is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States and is a major public health issue. It can be caused by both smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke and other environmental factors. Treatment options include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, often in combination. Early detection and prompt treatment are crucial for improving outcomes. Advances in screening, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer have made it possible to detect and treat the disease at an earlier stage, leading to fewer deaths from this devastating illness.
