Overview

Dermatology psoriasis is an autoimmune and inflammatory skin condition characterized by the appearance of thick, scaly red patches on the skin. This skin condition is usually caused by an overactive immune system that causes an increase in skin cell production. Psoriasis is often itchy and painful, and can significantly reduce patients’ quality of life. The exact cause of psoriasis is not known, but it appears to be related to heredity, diet, and environmental factors. Treatment for psoriasis usually involves topical and oral medications, UV light therapy, and lifestyle modifications. Treatment options vary from patient to patient and depend on the severity of the condition. Other inflammatory diseases of the skin include eczema and atopic dermatitis, which have similar symptoms and treatments. Dermatology psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases are important to diagnose and treat as they can have a significant impact on quality of life.
