Biography
Dr. Harshad Thakur, MD, is Director of the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi, Delhi, India. He completed his MBBS and MD in Preventive and Social Medicine from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and earned a Diploma in Business Management from Wellingkar Institute of Management. His career includes seven years in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at KEM Hospital, followed by a distinguished tenure at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), where he served as Associate Professor from 2000 and Professor from 2008, chairing the Centre for Health Policy, Planning & Management and the Centre for Public Health, and founding the MPH program in Social Epidemiology in 2008. His research expertise spans tuberculosis control, public-private partnerships in health, and social epidemiology, exemplified by his most-cited publication, "Status and challenges for tuberculosis control in India โ Stakeholders' perspective" (2021, cited 50 times), and he founded the Tuberculosis Interest Group at TISS and serves as a founding member of SAATHI (Social Advancement Through Health Initiative).
