Biography
Borna Relja is affiliated with Ulm University Medical Center, Germany, and has contributed extensively to trauma and inflammation research. With over 19 indexed publications, Relja's work addresses critical mechanisms in polytrauma, including intestinal barrier dysfunction, inflammasome regulation, and the modulation of inflammatory responses by alcohol exposure and hemorrhage/resuscitation. The most-cited publication, "I-FABP as a Potential Marker for Intestinal Barrier Loss in Porcine Polytrauma" (2022), exemplifies ongoing efforts to identify biomarkers for trauma-induced organ injury. Relja's research spans molecular pathways involving NF-κB, JNK, and NLRP1, as well as translational studies on bone healing and coagulation factors in trauma patients.
