Overview

Cancer of the pancreas is a serious and life-threatening disease caused by the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells within the pancreas. The pancreas is a small organ that is located behind the stomach and is responsible for producing hormones, like insulin, and for making digestive enzymes. Over time, these abnormal cells can begin to spread to other parts of the body, making it difficult to treat. Treatment options for pancreatic cancer include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Early detection is key in improving outcomes, however, there are currently no screening tests available that are able to detect pancreatic cancer in its earlier stages. Awareness and research are critical in helping to improve the prognosis and outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients.
