Overview
Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses characterized by an unhealthy relationship with food and body weight. They can have severe health consequences, including physical and psychological problems, and can even be life-threatening. Eating disorders can affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and often require specialized treatment. The most common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. Treatment is most successful when it is comprehensive and tailored to the individual, and may include therapy, lifestyle changes, and medications. Eating disorders are a major public health concern and should be taken seriously.
