Overview
Thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot forms inside a vein or artery. Such clots can occur in any part of the body, but are most often found in the legs, arms and brain. Thrombosis is a potentially dangerous condition, as the clots can block blood flow, leading to tissue damage, pain, swelling and even death in extreme cases. Thrombosis can be caused by a variety of factors, including a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, cancer, and pregnancy. Treatment generally includes anticoagulant drugs and other medications to prevent the clot from enlarging or travelling to another part of the body. Early diagnosis and treatment of thrombosis increases the chances of a successful outcome.
