Overview
Animal breeding and reproduction is the area of veterinary and agricultural science concerned with how animals reproduce and how their reproductive traits can be managed and improved. It covers the physiology of the reproductive cycle, fertility and conception, pregnancy and parturition, and the techniques used to enhance breeding outcomes, such as estrous synchronization, artificial insemination, and assisted reproduction. Effective reproductive management is central to animal health, productivity in livestock systems, and the maintenance of healthy populations. This topic is well represented in research relevant to Veterinary Healthcare. Reported work includes a review of attempts to improve cow fertility through reproductive management and estrous synchronization, an assessment of reproductive performance and newborn sex ratio in crossbred dairy cattle, a review of uterine involution and ovarian activity in postpartum dairy cows, and a study of L-carnitine in the in vitro maturation of immature bovine oocytes. Together these studies address fertility, the postpartum return to breeding, and assisted reproductive techniques in animals. This page gathers open-access, peer-reviewed research relevant to animal breeding and reproduction.
