Advancing Oxygen Chemistry Across All Disciplines

IJO publishes original research on the chemistry, physics, and applications of oxygen-containing compounds spanning metal oxides and ceramics, peroxides and superoxides, oxygenated organic molecules, reactive oxygen species, electrochemical oxygen processes, atmospheric and aqueous oxygen chemistry, and industrial oxidation technologies.

Journal Scope and Mission

The International Journal of Oxygen Compounds provides a dedicated venue for research centered on the synthesis, characterization, reactivity, and application of oxygen-containing compounds. We welcome studies across inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, biological, and materials chemistry that advance understanding of oxygen compound behavior at molecular, mesoscopic, and macroscopic scales. Our interdisciplinary focus bridges fundamental oxygen chemistry with practical applications in energy, environment, materials, and life sciences. We accept original research articles, comprehensive reviews, methods papers, and short communications.

Our scope encompasses metal oxides and oxide ceramics including perovskites, spinels, and layered structures used in electronics, catalysis, and energy storage; peroxides, superoxides, and hyperoxides that drive oxidation chemistry and radical processes; oxygenated organic compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, ethers, esters, and epoxides central to synthesis and pharmaceuticals; reactive oxygen species including singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radicals, and superoxide anions in chemical and biological contexts; oxygen electrochemistry for batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers; atmospheric oxygen chemistry and ozone photochemistry affecting air quality and climate; aqueous oxygen dynamics and dissolved oxygen processes in environmental and industrial systems; and selective oxidation reactions that underpin chemical manufacturing worldwide.

Manuscript Preparation and Quality Standards

Strong submissions present clear research questions, rigorous experimental or computational methods, and transparent data reporting. Whether describing oxide material synthesis, peroxide reactivity studies, catalytic oxidation mechanisms, electrochemical oxygen investigations, or biological ROS research, we expect complete methodological detail that enables reproducibility and critical evaluation by the oxygen chemistry community.

Figures should communicate chemical structures, reaction schemes, spectroscopic data, and analytical results with precision. Include high-resolution spectra, crystallographic parameters, kinetic plots, and statistical analyses where appropriate. Data availability statements should specify repositories, accession numbers, or supplementary materials for spectra, crystal structures, computational files, and datasets supporting your oxygen compound research.

For studies involving human or animal samples in biological oxidation research, include ethics approval identifiers and compliance statements. We welcome pre-registered studies and encourage use of reporting standards appropriate to your research area including FAIR data principles for oxygen compound databases and chemical information sharing.
